A few things that may help:
1 Try to keep water warm (76-80 degrees)
2 One of the reasons your aquatic pets may suffer is from oxygen depravation so you should try to move the surface of the water by pouring the aquarium water from a mixing bowl back into the top of the aquarium.
3 Perform a 5% water change every few hours for better o2 exchange as well removal of the toxic levels in the water.
4 Use ammonia remover liquid if you happen to have any handy.
Remember oxygen, temperature are very important to your pets!
